About Health Promotion

The Office of Health Promotion strives to assist students in developing a healthy lifestyle and promotes a campus environment that is conducive to the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices that lead to the academic and personal success of all students. We support population-level health, wellbeing, and safety through evidence-informed, community-oriented, strategic initiatives including peer education and direct services.

Our Commitment to Health

In adopting the Okanagan Charter, and continually working towards a healthier campus community in people, place, and planet, Springfield College maintains its position of leadership by reinforcing our commitment to health and well-being. A healthy campus for all will improve the lives of those who live, study, and work here.

  • Pride Cares

Pride Cares is a campus initiative--created with intention--that draws from the Humanics philosophy and uses a peer-to-peer model to engage and support students who may be experiencing a mental health challenge. The mission is to equip volunteer students with skills surrounding non-judgmental language and empathetic listening while acting in a caring manner to assist their peers in need. Students participate in seven hours of training to equip them with information to better understand mental health (depression, anxiety, substance use, etc.), but more importantly, to recognize warning signs and learn how to connect with their peers in need of assistance.

Pride Cares training is offered once a semester. All undergraduate students are welcome to complete the application above to be considered for the training.

  • The Student Advocates for Wellness

The Student Advocates for Wellness are the peer wellness educators at Springfield College. The mission of the Student Advocates for Wellness is to educate the campus community about living healthy lives.

The Student Advocates inform their peers how to balance the elements of a healthy lifestyle in fun and engaging ways. They focus on the full complement of health and wellness in line with the Humanics philosophy of integration of spirit, mind, and body. The Student Advocates for Wellness help students make healthier choices by improving knowledge, awareness, informed decision-making, and skill-building.

The Student Advocates for Wellness serve as the health education component of the Office of Health Promotion, and are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating health and wellness programs throughout campus.
