Themed Exploration: "Challenges Shaping Our World" Overview and Learning Outcomes

Beginning in Fall 2027, the Themed Exploration domain of the Core will have a different structure. Students will apply skills from Foundations for the Future and Understanding the World in a set of three courses in the single theme of "Challenges Shaping Our World" that prepare them to fulfill the College’s mission of service to others. To ensure that a student’s choice of courses include varied perspectives, students must choose courses with three different prefixes and no course may overlap with a student’s primary major program of study (i.e., no “double-dipping” between the TE and major curriculum). Learning outcomes focus on how information across the three different courses equips students to interrogate, understand, and act on issues that affect humanity at the local, national, and/or international level.

Learning Outcomes
1. Investigate contemporary social challenges with discipline-specific methods and credible sources.
2. Analyze how different perspectives within a discipline shape interpretations of social challenges.
3. Evaluate actual or potential outcomes of interventions using discipline-specific frameworks and tools.
