Read the Web, installation and troubleshooting (Chrome)

The Read the Web browser extension allows you to have web content read aloud, use study tools such as highlighting, dictionaries, translation tools and more.  These instructions will be for Google Chrome, but generally work in other browsers.

1. First make sure you can log into Kurzweil Software here: https://mypridenet.springfield.edu/techhelp/kurzweil/

2. Next, while using the Chrome Internet browser, you can download and install the Read the Web extension from the Chrome webstore here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/read-the-web/hdgegmlancchhhlkkddoiedlklgocffm

2a. If you receive an error about "You do not have access to the webstore" you need to temporarily log out of your college gmail account.

2b. Click on the icon in the upper right, from the drop down menu select "Sign Out".

2c. Try and download and install the web extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/read-the-web/hdgegmlancchhhlkkddoiedlklgocffm

3. Once installed, log into the Kurzweil Software here: https://mypridenet.springfield.edu/techhelp/kurzweil/

4. In the bottom left, click the "Enable Read the Web"  button.

5. You should get a message saying Read the Web is enabled, click the "OK" button.

6. Click on the extension icon in the Chrome and you should see the Read the Web extension.  Click on the icon to use it on a webpage.

7. To disable it,  click on the extension icon in the Chrome and you should see the Read the Web extension. Click on the icon again to disable it.

If you had to log out of your college Gmail to complete the installation, now you can log back in and the extention will continue to work.  A link to the college Gmail can be found here: https://mypridenet.springfield.edu/techhelp/home/
